Jason Wu’s New Twitter Account Is Managed By An Owl
The fashion industry has been famously slow to get in on the social media game, and until today, relative newcomer Jason Wu had been, too. But he started to dip his toe into the water this morning when he launched an official twitter account, managed by the owl that is his logo. You’ll find him, er, her at @MissWu_NY.
10 Important Things We Learned Last Week: April 17-23
This week was all about weddings and proms! Because it’s spring! We saw Karl Lagerfeld in the flesh, celebrated Kanye‘s bold fashion choices, and speculated about John Galliano‘s replacement. There was also a whole lot of plastic surgery talk.
PHOTOS: Lindsey Wixson Wears Custom Jason Wu To Prom
There are girls who go to Sears for their prom dresses, and then there’s Lindsey Wixson. The 17-year-old model wore a cobalt blue cocktail dress designed by Jason Wu at her prom last week, and she looked absolutely gorgeous in it. And at this point, we’re just counting down the days before Wu adds a line of prom dresses to his repertoire.
PHOTOS: Christie’s Green Bash Pulled Out All The Stops
Last night we attended the Christie’s Green Auction and Vogue Runway to Green fashion show, and it was fancy. So fancy! The well-heeled crowd swilled champagne, bid upwards of $100,000 on items like the “Chanel couture experience“, watched Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha stomp down the runway, and got their groove on to Nicki Minaj. Fancy!
Jason Wu Sells Out In Washington
It must be really good to be one of Michelle Obama‘s favorites. Jason Wu has no doubt been feeling the economic impact of the first lady wearing his dresses from day one of the Obama administration, and if his recent trip to Washington is any indication, her approval is really, really good for business.
Why Are So Many Of The CFDA Award Nominees So Young?
The nominees for the Council of Fashion Designers of America‘s 2011 awards ceremony are set, and the list is more or less a roster of the coolest kids working in the industry. And when we say kids, we mean kids. Because for the most part, this year’s nominees are pretty young. Also: Lady Gaga was nominated!
10 Important Things We Learned Last Week: Oct. 31-Nov. 6
This week we were able to watch Willow Smith and Donatella Versace on daytime TV. We also got to see Lanvin Hearts H&M in the flesh, and obsess over the many iterations of Gaga. Not to mention we learned Emma Watson wishes she had been naughtier. Awesome.
Lindsey Wixson Is Wearing Jason Wu To Her Prom
When I was 16, I went to prom. I thought I was so cool because I got to go to prom as a sophomore — an honor usually only reserved for juniors and seniors. I scoured the mall for the perfect prom dress, eventually deciding to splurge on a little black number my mom let me buy at Neimans. Because that’s what life’s like in the suburbs of the Midwest. Not so for Kansas born and bred Lindsey Wixson: Jason Wu is designing a prom dress just for her.
What Do Sally Singer And Wigwams Have In Common?
Diana Vreeland, Madeleine Vionnet, Elsa Schiapparelli, Edith Head. Fashion loves it’s icons, but how much importance does looking back have in an industry so focused on looking forward? Last night, editor Sally Singer and designers Jason Wu and Jonathan Adler joined author Lesley M. M. Blume for a panel in honor of Blume’s latest book, Let’s Bring Back: An Encyclopedia of Forgotten-Yet-Delightful, Chic, Useful, Curious, and Otherwise Commendable Things from Times Gone By — and it was as riveting as that title is long.
The Anna Wintour Weekend Gossip Roundup
We may have an unhealthy obsession with Anna Wintour, but we’re okay with that. No matter how much we read about her (or how many times we watch The Devil Wears Prada The September Issue) the all-powerful Vogue editor still fascinates us. So in the spirit of all things Anna, we bring to you this weekend’s Anna Wintour gossip roundup.
Asian-Americans Make Their Mark In The Fashion World

Kirsten Dunst And Diane Kruger: Who Wore Bright Better?
Between the Oscars, the Met Gala, and Cannes, recent red carpets have seen a dearth of color. Luckily, the Cannes Closing Ceremony had Kirsten Dunst and Diane Kruger to liven things up a little bit, as each chose to go bright (and then go home.)
Christian Siriano Featured In Crain’s 40 Under 40
Crain’s magazine’s annual 40 under 40 feature is a veritable list of who’s who in New York. The list includes honorees from industries as varied as finance, hospitality, politics, and new media, but it doesn’t often highlight the up and comers in the fashion industry — which is why it was a pleasant surprise to see Project Runway alum Christian Siriano featured right up top.
Nailin’ It: Top Trends For Spring 2010
Experimentation seems to be the new rule — which means playing with color combinations and utilizing different textures to create something completely authentic and unique for each individual.
Taylor Swift Fierce And Fearless In Elle
This month marks Elle’s Work and Power issue, and many will wonder why the magazine opted for a just-out-of-her-teens superstar. While Taylor Swift is undeniably popular, would it not have made more sense to put someone a little, well, older on the cover? Maybe someone who could, at the very least, legally have a happy-hour cocktail?
