J.Crew’s printed Manolo Blahnik pumps were easily the most talked about collaboration of New York Fashion Week, but at least one party had no idea it was even happening.
J.Crew held its very first Mercedes Benz Fashion Week presentation at Lincoln Center this morning and while the promise of Jenna Lyons was exciting enough, nothing (and we mean nothing) prepared us for the sparkly celeb explosion that was Beyonce Knowles walking in to check out the wares.
Last year, Patrick Robinson decided to revamp Gap’s denim collection. Now, he is apparently doing it again with the newly launched Premium Pant collection. Trying to keep up with J.Crew, are we?
Fashion has a ridiculously short memory. Take J. Crew, for example. Now, we’re pretty sure it wasn’t too long ago that the mass market retailer was more or less indistinguishable from The Gap, what with its prep-friendly range of high-rise khakis, $40 cable knit sweaters, and the occasional peacoat. But thanks to the entree of C.E.O-cum-magician Mickey Drexler and creative director Jenna Lyons, there is a definite chic in the chain. And now comes the news that the all-American chain has opened itself up to the U.K. market via Net-A-Porter.
