Jean Paul Gaultier Page 2
Guess what, little monsters? Lady Gaga and designer Jean Paul Gaultier are both coming to a TV screen near you! Gaga by Gaultier, the interview that the fashion icon did with the legendary designer for France’s TF6, will air on the CW next month.
Who wears short skirts? Not us, especially not after Paris Haute Couture Week‘s overwhelming display of below-the-knee silhouettes. From Jean Paul Gaultier to Armani Prive to Chanel, shrouded legs ran amuck. With the maxi dress’ epic rise to becoming this summer’s most coveted item, longer hemlines are here to stay, making the midi-skirt a trend that has inevitably followed suit.
We’re smack dab in the middle of Paris Haute Couture Week, a fashion phenomenon that happens twice a year and spawns a lot of jokes in which the word “haute” replaces the word “hot.” And even though it’s quite haute in France right now (see what we did there?) editors and stylists are looking at the clothes their very wealthy clients will be wearing once fall’s chill returns to the air.
What’s next in designer capsule collections? Jason Wu‘s collaboration with Brazilian shoe brand, Melissa. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Taiwanese-born Wu will be releasing two styles in his collaboration with the plastic shoe brand, following in the footsteps of Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Gareth Pugh.
We love Jean Paul Gaultier. And who wouldn’t? He invented the cone bra! He spanked Gaga! He was an 80s pop star! It doesn’t get much better than that. The french designer was born in the suburbs of Paris and with no formal training, quickly grew to be one of the most respected names in fashion. In an interview with Opening Ceremony, Gaultier dished about his friendship with Madonna, his childhood, and what Pierre Cardin taught him. Here are some of the designer’s reflections on his 35 year career.
Kristen McMenamy is one of our all-time favorite models. The 46-year-old is timelessly beautiful and has a sick body, but it’s her long silver locks that are our favorite McMenamy feature. She’s been super busy the past few months — walking in couture shows, covering magazines, even doing a little acting. And now she’s snagged herself a Jean-Paul Gaultier campaign!
We all know that fashion people love Lady Gaga. Her looneytoons outfits and outre personality make most designers look tame and probably also give the remainder a sense of validation. “See, that outfit is wearable!” we imagine them opining to their investors. But while that’s old news, the fact that Jean Paul Gaultier and the Gags are actually friends, like, genuine, seem-to-enjoy-each-other’s-company amigos makes our hearts flutter and our cable bill wish we had access to France’s TF6 channel where, on June 9, an hour-long Gaga-focused documentary filmed by the designer will air.
There’s nothing we love more than a good video of the First Lady dancing on the White House lawn, so our collective head nearly exploded when we found such a video, featuring Michelle Obama busting a move in a shirt by Jean Paul Gaultier.
When we first saw Katy Perry’s June cover for Vanity Fair, we thought she looked gorgeous. A lot like Dita von Teese, but gorgeous nonetheless. Apparently we weren’t the only people to think that, and now some are accusing Perry, the magazine, and cover photographer Annie Liebovitz of ripping off a specific von Teese pose.
Modeling is hard. Have you ever attempted a runway walk? Have you ever attempted a runway walk in 6-inch heels, on a crazy catwalk, with a million flashbulbs going off? No? Us either! But it looks hard. That’s why sometimes models fall! Others, however, are total pros.
In a twist that we probably should have seen coming, Andrej Pejic walked as Jean Paul Gaultier‘s couture bride today. And while we’ve discussed how pretty the male model is, now we can confirm he has a bangin’ bod, too. We’re not quite sure if Pejic’s body naturally looks like this or if it’s the work of a girdle of sorts, but he has hips! And a waist! He also appears to lack any sort of body hair.
Andrej Pejic is the prettiest dude on the planet. We were excited to hear that both Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier tapped the androgynous model for their spring womenswear campaigns, and now the Gaultier pics are here!
Paris men’s fashion week is in full swing — and so is androgynous model du jour Andrej Pejic’s career. The blonde bombshell walked Jean Paul Gaultier‘s runway in a gold dress, matching sparkly tights, a fur vest, and a wave that would make Veronica Lake green-eyed with envy. But the best part might have been the nickname bestowed upon him by Gaultier himself.
Oh, the things we learned this week! Kanye digs women’s Balmain, Jean Paul Gaultier thinks Gaga rips off Madonna and Willow has great manners. We miss Alexander McQueen, and so does Nick Knight. Unrelated: Queen Elizabeth‘s panties are a thing you can own.
Jean Paul Gaultier does what he wants. He puts Beth Ditto in his runway shows and makes mechanical corsets. His biggest design regret is not designing the condom! And his couture shows are divine. So yes, we think he’s really great. The irreverent designer was recently interviewed by the Daily Telegraph, and now our love for him is even more justified.
In this odd (and awesome) bit of ’80s ephemera, Naomi Campbell dances in Jean Paul Gaultier‘s “How To Do That” music video. There’s vogueing abound, Gaultier in a tight white shirt and dancing scissors. There’s really not much more we can say. But we’re obsessed.
So-called plus sized model Crystal Renn walked in three major shows during Paris Fashion Week, and getting tapped by Zac Posen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld‘s shows would be a huge deal for any model. Renn says it’s a breakthrough, but we’re not holding our breath just yet.
