From Downton Abbey to Mad Men, the small screen is having a love affair with period pieces as of late, and at last night’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards, the same nostalgic attitude permeated the red carpet, with Emmy Rossum, Diane Kruger, and more opting for looks that harkened back to decades past. But while some gowns captured the best elements of bygone times, others were the wrong kind of retro.
It’s been a bleak week for red carpet style, save for Maria Sharapova’s J. Mendel and Jessica Paré’s Prabal Gurung ensembles, but the bad turned to worst last night. Most of the looks were just not stylish, but three in particular were downright offensive to our eyes: Emmy Rossum, Flo Rida, and event producer Susanne Bartsch. As for who’s the worst offender? You’ll have to decide.
With a two-hour start to finish runtime, the Screen Actors Guild Awards is perhaps the shortest of the season’s shows, but that doesn’t mean it was lacking for sartorial missteps. From Julianne Moore’s ill-fitting Chanel couture creation to Morena Baccarin’s overwrought Basil Soda gown, these celebs fell far short of our expectations for the evening — if we even had any at all.
The SAG Awards red carpet was a total disaster — the looks were bad, boring or both.
