The list of women who wouldn’t love to raid Kate Middleton‘s closet is fairly short, but the number of young girls who want to be as thin as the Duchess of Cambridge is growing every second. Images of the duchess and her sister Pippa Middleton are being used as “thinspiration” on pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia websites.
Are you as curious as we are about what Kate Middleton will be wearing on her upcoming visit to North America? Friends say the Duchess will be intentionally wearing outfits already in her wardrobe on the tour. Judging by some (make that all) of her past clothing picks, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Ok, so that’s not quite fair. Comparing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress to the (now) Duchess of Cambridge’s black tie gown is kind of like comparing a one of a kind exotic apple to an everyday, but super special orange. Either way though, the sparkling, blush colored Jenny Packham creation the Duchess / Princess / Whatever We’re Supposed To Call Her These Days wore on Thursday night is absolutely breathtaking.
On the day before and the day after her wedding, the newly minted Duchess of Cambridge was spotted wearing a pair of black patent leather espadrille wedges by British designer LK Bennett. In a stroke of absolute marketing genius, Bennett has decided to run a second production of those wedges and rename them Kate. And there’s already a waiting list for them.
While almost everyone in the world (hyperbolic, we know) is wrenching his or her hands over what Kate Middleton will wear at her wedding, a small group of designers have banded together to suggest that her wedding dress won’t be nearly as important as what she wears when she leaves her reception. Middleton’s “going-away outfit,” as it has been termed in a story in The Daily Telegraph, will be her first outfit as a fully-fledged member of the royal family. (Apparently the wedding dress itself won’t count because it will still have perspiration of the middle class all over it.)
No wonder Matthew Williamson changed his mind about Kate Middleton. It’s been reported — by people who can do math and stuff — that the future princess and someday queen of England can inspire some serious clothing purchases. How serious? Middleton’s preference for knee-high boots has inspired the women of the British Isles to run into stores for boots just like hers. And so many women have done it that sales of such boots have increased 663 percent.
Just in time for you to get full use out of your brand new iPad 2, a Canadian company has released an app that will tell you everything about the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Everything, that is, except for who’s making Middleton’s dress.
Open mouth, insert foot. British designer Matthew Williamson suggested to a reporter that fashion people should just stop obsessing over Kate Middleton. And why? Because she’s not really a fashion person, so no one should care what she wears. Um. What?
While everyone has been talking about the dress (and, tangentially, the jewels) that Kate Middleton will wear when she walks down the aisle, we haven’t heard much about her shoes. We’re guessing that might be because they’ll be hidden underneath a waterfall of white silk or cream tulle or cloudy lace or something of that stripe. But that doesn’t make them any less important, so Regina Popp Smith, fashion editor at Footwear News, reached out to shoe designers to see what they’d make for the queen-to-be.
OMG you guys! You’re never going to guess what happened. Princess-to-be and Queen-in-training Kate Middleton left the confines of Clarence House for a public appearance! And she put feathers on her head! And there were photographers! But more importantly, there were feathers on her head. Aaaahdlsjalkjdfakj!
Designers and advertising agencies beware: using princess-to-be Kate Middleton‘s name and likeness to help sell your frocks could land you in court.
Once upon a time (actually in March 2002), a girl who did not know she would one day be a princess put on a see-through dress and sashayed her way down a runway in a fashion show at the University of St. Andrews. That girl was Kate Middleton, and her husband-to-be, Prince William, was sitting front row and whispered to a friend “Kate’s hot!” when she came down the runway. The rest, as they say, is history.
It’s finally happened! Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged, and according to reports, it happened over a month ago while the lovely couple was on vacation in Kenya. But fret not, this is no rumor. Buckingham Palace has released a statement confirming the engagement, which means everyone is in the clear. Let the dress speculation begin!
