A coroner’s inquest has determined that Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse from Kate Middleton‘s hospital who took the “royal prank” call last week, hung herself in her nurses’ quarters.

The media backlash against Australian radio hosts Mel Greig and Michael Christian has been fast and furious after the nurse who patched through their prank call on the hospital where the pregnant Kate Middleton was being treated committed suicide last week. The pair have reportedly been in hiding since the story broke, but gave a tearful interview today expressing their sorrow and regret over Jacintha Saldanha’s death.

Kate Middleton‘s pregnancy has been slightly overshadowed by hyperemesis gravidarum, the “acute morning sickness” condition that landed her in King Edward VII Hospital. Prince William drove her to the hospital Monday afternoon, and has been by her side since then. He finally left the hospital last night at 8:15PM GMT, and went back first thing today.
