With most print publications in the midst of an economic pickle, many veteran fashion editors have found themselves a new career helping fashion brands expand their web presence. But while editors certainly have the experience and know-how with regards to making a newsletter pop, we can’t help but think that some of these brands are looking for help in the wrong places.
Be honest — you’ve probably never given to much thought as to why you buy a magazine. Needless to say, it’s not a something the industry takes lightly. And now they’re looking past the typical celebs and pinning their last editorial chips on underaged and under-covered starlets like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus or the cast of Gossip Girl
In an industry dying to be saved, maybe a little edginess could go a long way. If Elle UK’s June 2010 cover is any indication, editor in chief Lorraine Candy thinks so as well. The magazine’s June cover displays a much more artsy aesthetic with a completely blurred and softly stunning photograph of Kylie Minogue.
