London’s menswear shows are proving particularly addictive to browse through this season, and not (just) because of the models. Here are five trends we’ve had our eye on from the Spring 2014 runways, from the visor-like sunnies at Burberry to Meadham Kirchhoff’s high-fashion plastics. In the gallery below, we’ve come one oxford-clad step closer to beating the London lads at their own game.
Is it Friday? Because it sure feels like it around this office when we start coming up with excuses to watch male models do things. But, nope! It’s just a regular, old Tuesday, the day after the CFDAs when we’re all entrenched in high-brow fashion coverage. You know, the the who’s who of the country’s best craftsmen. Wait, what’s that? This video of male models singing Daft Punk’s summer anthem “Get Lucky” is from the CFDAs? Well, then we don’t even need to make excuses! This is timely, relevant, and, oh, whatever, just watch.
Riffing off the theme of one of our favorite books to peruse while in line at Urban Outfitters, “Hot Guys and Baby Animals”, one inspired blogger has gone and created a Tumblr exclusively devoted to pairing adorable kittens with their doppelganger eye candy.
If we had longer arms, we’d reach right across the Atlantic and give the Observer a high five for their latest feature: a lengthy profile and photo spread starring Casey Legler, the first woman ever to be signed to the men’s board at Ford Models.

Back in January, we couldn’t get enough of Justin Wu‘s footage of dude models lip-syncing to the Dandy Warhols. Well, we also love Wu’s second video, in which fashion’s finest male specimens channel Zoolander‘s Orange Mocha Frappuccino-loving friends once again.
Male models have been known to do some pretty silly stuff on camera, but standing around being really, really uncomfortable is not one of them. Because the guys are basically paid to exude nothing but cool, it’s a little weird to see them be so painfully awkward. And yet, in this video of the guys Ford Models hired to walk during the spring/summer 2012 runway shows in Brazil, that’s pretty much all that’s happening.

But for all his meticulously cultivated facial hair, natural good looks and a stomach that looks like a supple leather bag full of warm stones, the model just can’t talk to women.
In this weekend’s Sunday Styles, Guy Trebay investigates the evolving look of that enigmatic creature known as the male model. We’ve long held the belief that male models, well, looked a lot like female models. For as long as we can remember, designers have opted to use young, skinny boys in their shows and campaigns — and while we love a little adrogyny, it’s nice to see some variety come into play.
