Marc Jacobs Page 2
After adding Creative Director of Diet Coke to his already lengthy resume, Marc Jacobs has unveiled the final results of his collaboration with the company: some pretty jazzy soda cans.
After seeing so many half-naked ladies on the runway and red carpet, we’re kind of jaded to the sight of nipples, sideboobs, butt cheeks, and the like. But Marc Jacobs took nakedness to a whole new level at his fall 2013 show last night by putting 18-year-old Lily McMenamy, daughter of legendary model Kristen McMenamy, in a pair of high-waisted briefs and, well, not much else.
Three seasons ago, Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on New York’s fashion week schedule, with brands like Marc Jacobs and Theyskens Theory rescheduling their shows in advance of the (as it turns out, completely over-hyped) storm. This time around, we can’t even blame Nemo!
Diet Coke has tapped Marc Jacobs as their new creative director — for 2013, at least. In past years, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier have lent their names and design prowess to the soda company, but, according to WWD, Jacobs’ stint stands out through his ethos of “glamour and sex sells just about everything.”
Models have to be prepared to get themselves into some pretty strange situations on the job. But you’d think certain people would get a pass, namely Kate Moss, who, after 25 years of modeling, can pretty much say “no” to whomever she so pleases. Victoria Beckham likewise doesn’t strike us all that easily persuadable. And yet, Juergen Teller has captured both women in less than glamorous poses. How did he do it?
Back in 2011, Marc Jacobs caused a bunch of hullaballoo with his Oh, Lola! fragrance ad featuring Dakota Fanning, which was banned in the UK for “sexualizing a child“. Fanning hasn’t said anything about the banned ad — until Glamour‘s March issue.
These days, Victoria Beckham comes in just behind Anna Wintour on the list of people we would least expect to see leaving the house in knockoff designer duds. But not so back in the early aughts, before Beckham had truly exploded on to the fashion scene, and was photographed while carrying her son and *gasp* a fake Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse graffiti handbag.
Marc Jacobs announced that he was in the early stages of launching a cosmetics line back in April, and the only detail we had was that the line would be possibly sold at Sephora. Well, now we know a bit more.
It doesn’t look like Marc Jacobs‘ apartment woes will be over anytime soon. He was hoping to move back into his West Village apartment at Superior Ink after hiding out uptown at The Mark to escape from Hurricane Sandy, but that could actually take longer than he expected.
Hurricane Sandy has forced downtown fashion folk like Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfield, and Marc Jacobs to seek refuge uptown. Jacobs was caught by TMZ paparazzi in the Upper East Side this weekend while walking his dog and smoking a stoge, and he revealed the state of his West Village digs.
To think: only seven short months ago Marc Jacobs‘ name was still being bandied about as a possible replacement for John Galliano at Christian Dior. Now, of course, Raf Simons is firmly settled into the role with two collections under his belt and Jacobs is busy riding up and down escalators with his troupe of models at Louis Vuitton, but under different circumstances, the Marc/Dior pairing may have actually come to pass.
Marc Jacobs has named relatively new-to-us model Ruby Jean Wilson as the face of his next Juergen Teller-lensed campaign. Wilson opened and closed his spring 2013 show, and it’s safe to say that she’ll be on everyone’s radar from now on.
Last season, Marc Jacobs piled his models aboard the Louis Vuitton express, a custom-built steam engine that reportedly cost the house $8 million. This year he toned it down a tad, merely installing functional escalators for the LV girls to ride on their way down to the lemon yellow-and-white checked runway.
Remember when Marc Jacobs was cast in the indie movie Disconnect last year, but we had no idea what kind of character he’d play? Well, now we know!
Fragrance reviews are silly, but sometimes, fragrance marketing is even sillier. What do “playful past times” and “nostalgia” really smell like? So from now on, we’ll be crowdsourcing our own fragrance reviews. Read on to find out what our office thought about the latest sample to land on our desk. This week, we’re sniffing Marc Jacobs Dot.
As much as we’re dreading this year’s Fashion’s Night Out, we were pretty amazed at its new PSA. It failed to hype us up for FNO, but it did make us giggle. The normal fashion crew of Marc Jacobs, Karlie Kloss, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Paré, and Solange Knowles make appearances in the video. But wait, hold the phone — is that Tyson Chandler?? Yeah, he’s in it too! And why is Darren Criss singing a Madonna song?
If you follow Rihanna on Instagram you’ll know she’s been back on her home island of Barbados lately with another very famous mononymous houseguest: Oprah! Well, the episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter dedicated to the singer finally aired last night, and the interview was just what you’d expect from the pairing of the Queen of Talk with this decade’s Queen of Pop (and, let’s be honest, of scandal, too).
