Last night Elle celebrated Tinseltown’s elite at their Women in Hollywood celebration. Vets like Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn mixed with the younger set, which included Mad Men‘s adorable Kiernan Shipka (who looked like she walked right off the set in her retro frock). The fashionable crowd included Sofia Coppola (classy in black and white), Rachel Zoe (fabulous in fur), Gwyneth Paltrow (punchy in tangerine) and many more.

Monday night marked the single biggest event on fashion’s yearly calendar: The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala. The theme this year was American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity and, appropriately, focused on American style through the ages. We’ve touched on some historical icons and wondered how exactly the Gap — this year’s sponsor — was going to pull off outfitting stars for the red carpet, but the photos are up and the guests have made it past the very velvet rope, so now the fun part begins.

Wednesday night in New York City saw a host of events, but a few in particular caught our eye both for their star-studded invite list and the resulting sartorial stylings. From Tara Subkoff’s questionable leather shorts to Shenae Grimes’ absolute trainwreck of an outfit, it was a good night in pictures.
