Mrs. Obama seems to have toned down her sartorial awesomeness post-Inauguration, now that everyone’s eyes have turned towards NYC. But even in the most basic of wool frocks at the National Prayer Breakfast, she found a way to steal the show.
It may be November, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at Michelle Obama‘s latest ensemble. The First Lady is going full steam ahead in the final few days before the Presidential election, and yesterday she was in Miami, Florida rallying supporters at the James L. Knight Center, wearing a repeat watercolor floral Moschino shirtdress in violet, lime green, and indigo.
Radio host Rush Limbaugh is many things, but arbiter of fashion isn’t one of the bullet points on his LinkedIn Profile. So you can imagine how surprised we were this weekend when our sister site Mediaite wrote a post about Limbaugh commenting on first lady Michelle Obama‘s fashion clout. Suffice it to say, he got it wrong.
Try as we might, we (and by we, we mean the fashion community at large) simply can’t convince First Lady Michelle Obama that what she wears has an importance beyond making her look good and covering up what needs covering up. So when she sat down with reporters for lunch at the White House this week, she shooed away the suggestion that her wardrobe is any different from any other American woman’s. “Clothes are just the thing you wear to do the stuff you need to do,” she said.
We know that our fashionable First Lady isn’t lacking for clothes, so why double up on an outfit as recognizable as this Tracy Reese bright blue floral cocktail dress? Michelle wore the dress first while exiting the plane at Benito Juarez International Airport in April, and then again yesterday to a picnic on the White House lawn.
