Another day, another stellar look from Michelle Obama. The first lady joined President Obama last night at the Pritzker Architecture Prize ceremony, where she wore a purple (or navy blue?) dress from Coach creative director Reed Krakoff.
We’re not sure why we never imagined this moment actually happening, but in a wonderful confluence of fashion, politics, royal extravagance, and People We Like To Cover, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and First Lady Michelle Obama met in person today. And they wore clothes! (Shocker, we know.)
Contrary to almost every breathless prediction we read today, Michelle Obama did not select an Asian-American designer’s dress for the state dinner with China. Instead, the First Lady wore a gown designed by the late Alexander McQueen to host Chinese President Hu Jintao and his wife, First Lady Liu Yongqing.
The White House rolled out the red carpet last night for a state dinner welcoming Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife Margarita Zavala, but the best part of the evening might have been First Lady Michelle Obama’s absolutely stunning, sparkling, and cerulean blue gown designed by Peter Soronen.
