Last night, in Las Vegas , Miss USA Olivia Culpo took home the crown at the Miss Universe pageant. And man was it a glitzy, gaudy affair!
And thus concludes the media saga of Jenna Talackova, the 23-year-old Miss Universe Canada contestant who was initially booted from the competition in March for not being a “naturally born” female.
Even though pageant officials announced on Tuesday that transgender contestants will be allowed to participate in upcoming Miss Universe competitions, blogger Bryan Boy decided to weigh in on the controversy surrounding contestant Jenna Talackova (who was born a man, but is now legally a woman) via Twitter last night.

Miss Universe Organization owner Donald Trump spoke with ABC‘s Katie Couric this morning about transgender Miss Universe Canada contestant Jenna Talackova. She was disqualified from entering the pageant last month for failing to meet the gender requirements, but was finally given the green light to compete yesterday.
Last month, 23-year-old Jenna Talackova was disqualified from entering Miss Universe Canada after it was revealed that she was born a male and had undergone gender reassignment four years ago. Now, the Associated Press is reporting that the Miss Universe Organization might reverse the decision and allow Talackova to enter the pageant in May.
We take it for granted that beauty queens are going to be, well, beautiful. But the newly crowned Miss Universe isn’t just beautifyl, she’s disarmingly and regally gorgeous. While some (read: most) of the other contestants at last night’s competition in Sao Paolo, Brazil looked a little, uh, trashy, Miss Angola Leila Lopes exuded grace and charm all the way to the crown.

Last night, all the glitter, spray tan, and hairspray in the world met on stage in the sparkle extravaganza that is the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. But while all were leggy, beautiful, and decked out in the most hilarious National Costumes anyone could design, only one could take home the crown — and that was Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete.
Normally, when we think of the sartorial choices at the Miss Universe pageant, over-sequined evening gowns and and tired pastel-colored bikinis are the first things that come to mind. But let us not forget that at this level of competition, contestants have to represent their nations as well as themselves, and one of the many ways they do that is by wearing a national costume.
