André Leon Talley Owns 15 Pairs Of The Same Uggs

thumb

Last night, we had the honor of viewing Laura Smalls‘ spring 2013 collection. The Michelle Obama-approved designer sent out a smattering of tailored looks, and sitting right across from us in the front row was André Leon Talley in a burgundy ensemble, and wait, Uggs? Indeed.

Meet Michelle Obama’s New Favorite Designer, Laura Smalls

thumb

Laura Smalls has flown relatively under the radar since she debuted her eponymous line three years ago, but now, thanks to Michelle Obama, she’s a household name. The FLOTUS wore not one, but two of Smalls’ dresses during the Democratic National Convention last week. Michelle also chose a Smalls frock back in 2011, and as the story goes, anything she wears turns to gold.

Tory Burch Channels A World-Traveling Prairie Girl For Spring

torythumb

It was a sunny morning in the glass-walled atrium where Tory Burch held her spring 2013 runway show yesterday, and the designer offered up appropriately cheery frocks for the occasion. Models paraded down the white lacquered runway in midi dresses in marigold eyelet or printed with stalks of wheat, an inspiration echoed in the unkempt fishtail braids sported by each.

Hervé Léger Takes A Sexy Sojourn To The Deep South For Spring

hervelegerthumb

As purveyors of sexy, look-at-me bandage dresses, Hervé Léger often skews a little more club girl than cool girl. But not so this season. For one, the pieces were all in neutral tones, save for a few pops of rich cobalt, so the look wasn’t nearly as flashy as in seasons past. Furthermore, designer Max Azria took inspiration from the quilters of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, which translated to unexpectedly intricate, sometimes kaleidoscopic-looking dresses that flew way beyond your run-of-the-mill bodycon.

Hailee Steinfeld Would ‘Totally’ Dye Her Hair Chris Benz Pink

We say go for it, girl! (Though, of course, her agent might not be quite so gung ho).

Srsly’s New Video Perfectly Captures Our Fashion Week Experience

Screen shot 2012-09-11 at 11.42.58 AM

We know complaining about fashion week engenders only the tiniest of tiny violins, but while meeting Ryan Lochte and watching Busta Rhymes toast Alexander Wang make it all worthwhile, this really is how we spend most of our days.

Louise Roe Watches Fashion Shows With ‘Two Heads On’

thumb

The first thing Louise Roe said to us after we met her at last night’s Alice + Olivia spring 2013 presentation was, “Oh my gosh, I love your necklace! Where did you get it?” We told her it was a Zara piece, but I painted over the clear rhinestones with neon nail polish. And boom, the Glamour editor-at-large’s eyes widened as if she just heard that Tom Ford was having a sample sale.

Ronnie Shills His Cocktail Creations At Sammi’s Runway Debut

thumb

We had no idea what to expect when we walked into the Metropolitan Pavilion South this afternoon for  the debut of Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola‘s activewear collection for SXE Fitness. Would the rest of the Jersey Shore cast be in attendance? Would MTV film the show for an episode? Was there going to be a fight? So many questions!

10 Michelle Obama-Worthy Pieces From Tracy Reese’s Spring Show

Tracy Reese is having a good week. On Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of her creations to give her powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention and yesterday the designer showed her spring collection to an enthusiastic crowd at Lincoln Center.

Mary-Alice Stephenson Champions For Young Designers At Parsons MFA

Eighteen designers from Parsons The New School for Design‘s Fashion Design and Society MFA program showed their collections Saturday morning. Sitting front and center to soak it all in was Mary-Alice Stephenson, who wholeheartedly supported the young designers and called them the “future of fashion”.

Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring Show Was Fit For A Princess

dvfthumb

Oh, to be young, beautiful, and a princess. That was the idea behind Diane von Furstenberg‘s spring collection, which was shown in New York yesterday in a theatre strung with mirrored lips, the designer’s iconic logo. DVF, however, wasn’t courting Kate Middleton, nor conjuring a Cinderella tale, but rather looking back on her own past and the years she spent as Diane, Princess of Fürstenburg, traveling the world with a bohemian spirit and a title in tow.

Coco Rocha spent most of Sunday tweeting mysteriously about surprises planned for Sunday night’s Zac Posen show, and while the model walked exclusively down his runway, it turns out she wasn’t the only surprise.

Kara Laricks Shows Feminine Pieces With A Masculine Twist For Spring

big

Fashion reality show alumni often fall into two categories: those who make it in the industry and those who don’t. Fashion Star winner Kara Laricks falls into the former, and this afternoon, she showed her spring 2013 collection in an industrial space inside Pier 57.

Rebecca Taylor’s Spring Collection Is All About The Cool Girl, But Even Cooler

Louise Roe, Blue Blood‘s Sami Gayle, and Smash‘s Katharine McPhee sat in the front row of Rebecca Taylor‘s spring 2013 show on Saturday afternoon. We were hoping McPhee would sing a tune, but she lost her voice and remained mum throughout the show. We were also hoping that the guy next to us wearing a scary gold spike shoulder necklace wouldn’t make any sudden movements and poke our eyes out. Thankfully, he heard our silent prayers, and we focused our peepers on the models walking out from backstage.

Fern Mallis Loves Korean Fashion, Has No Idea Who ‘Gangnam Style’ Guy Is

At Concept Korea‘s spring 2013 presentation this morning, The Stage at Lincoln Center was fittingly transformed into South Korea. Complete with native Korean designers and music from pop stars like the Wonder Girls and Psy, guests were given a glimpse into the culture.

Simon Doonan Has Advice For Ryan Lochte, Thinks Strip Billiards Sounds Fun

thumb

Pier 57 along the West Side Highway was transformed into a really (and we mean really) long runway for Prabal Gurung‘s spring 2013 show. As we waited in the heat for the show to start, we chatted up Simon Doonan, and picked his brain on our current flavors of the month: Ryan Lochte and Prince Harry.

Frida Kahlo, Flamingos, And Squeaky-Clean Sneakers At Nonoo

nonoothumb

One downside to the one-season-ahead fashion cycle is seeing designers present the most covetable of spring wares just as we prepare to pull the jackets and scarves out from the depths of our closets. This was just the case yesterday, as we gazed longingly at the crisp summer whites, palm print dresses, and brightly-colored shorts at Nonoo‘s Spring presentation.
