We weren’t exactly what you’d called shocked yesterday when Gap fired its best-known designer, Patrick Robinson. But retail insiders pulled no punches when they were asked to comment on the staff change, and said that while Robinson might not have made the biggest splash with customers, he’s not exclusively to blame for the brand’s lackluster performance over the past several years.
Patrick Robinson was fashion’s ultimate rising star just a few short years ago when he was hired at The Gap. But after seasons of lackluster sales, the American megabrand has decided to fire him.
Like everyone else, we’ve been itching for a peek at the collections from the winner’s of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund created in exclusive collaboration with The Gap. Well, itch no more. Today designs from the likes of Monique Péan, Patrik Ervell and Sophie Theallet will be unveiled at a special pop-up shop at the Gap’s Fifth Avenue store.
The theme for this year’s Met Costume Institute Gala is “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” and, appropriately, Gap is the sponsor. Though unarguably one of America’s most quintessential brands, Gap is hardly known for its evening wear. So what will the attendees be wearing?
Last year, Patrick Robinson decided to revamp Gap’s denim collection. Now, he is apparently doing it again with the newly launched Premium Pant collection. Trying to keep up with J.Crew, are we?
