Fragrance reviews are silly, but sometimes, fragrance marketing is even sillier. What do “playful pastimes” and “nostalgia” really smell like? So from now on, we’ll be crowdsourcing our own fragrance reviews. Read on to find out what our office thought about the latest sample to land on our desk. This week, we’re sniffing Valentino Assoluto.

Chanel No. 5 is one of the most iconic fragrances of all time, but according to scientists at a European Union advisory committee, it might actually be harmful to our health.
Let’s get one thing straight: Tom Ford‘s wares are never exactly bargain basement buys. Now, however, you can pair your $4000 handbag and $3000 sunglasses with one of four equally extravagant fragrances from the new Jardin Noir collection.
Well, a highly stylized version of how it’s made, that is.
Every pop star needs a fragrance. Justin Bieber has one, Adam Levine has one, and Lady Gaga’s is about to hit shelves. Taylor Swift already has one, but she isn’t just any pop star, so naturally, she should have two!
We’re not fragrance experts like Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, the guy Louis Vuitton hired to create its very first mass-produced fragrance, but we do like things that smell nice. And because we have that very distinct skill, we would like to give Mr. Cavallier-Belletrud a few pointers on what we as consumers would like the new scent to smell like whenever it reaches Vuitton’s 461 boutiques worldwide.
Just when you thought that maybe America’s Next Top Model was about to stop being a thing, the licensing geniuses at CBS came up with a way for it to stay alive for at least another year or two. This January, Tyra Banks and company will introduce Dreams Come True, ANTM’s first fragrance.
First we heard all about this gray hair pill business, and now we need to discuss the fact that a pill could one day take the place of perfume.
So Karl Lagerfeld‘s new fragrance Karleidoscope will be on the market Monday, and today the Chanel designer unveiled the ad for the scent, which, of course, shot himself.
Burlesque performer (and all around fashion superhero) Dita von Teese is set to launch a fragrance — but she guarantees it won’t be anything like other celebrity fragrances on the market.
We could sit here and lightly poke fun at Justin Bieber’s new women’s fragrance all morning, and we we’d actually entertained the idea of doing just that. But then we asked ourselves, what would be the point? Bieber’s new scent Someday is destined to be an olfactory business phenomenon the likes of which we’ve never seen before, and there is nothing we can do about it.
Unless you live in another hemisphere (or in the deep South, or the lower half of California, or some fantasy region we have yet to discover) it’s about to get real cold. And one of the ways we here at Styleite intend to remember the glory of springtime is to smell like a bucket full [...]
Why is Chanel No. 5 still one of the world’s most important fragrances? Apparently, it’s a Jersey thing. A new book entitled The Secret History of Chanel No. 5 claims that while World War II raged across Europe, production of the famous scent had no choice but to move from Grasse, France to Hoboken, New Jersey.
As total Internet nerds, we here at Styleite love the way Anna Dello Russo approaches social media — by which we mean to say we devour every post she puts up on her blog and follow her every web-based move religiously. So when we found out today that she’ll be selling her new perfume exclusively online, our hearts skipped beats and our browsers almost crashed.
Breakups suck. But if our breakups went like Kate Walsh‘s, we’d probably be a little more receptive to the idea of ending a relationship. Why? Walsh, of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice fame, was inspired to launch Boyfriend LLC, a company that makes a line of beauty products, after parting ways with a beau five years ago. HSN thinks the products will hit the best-seller lists in no time flat.
If there’s one thing that can be said about Katy Perry, it’s that she loves kitsch. The shorter, the brighter, the sillier, the tighter: we’re pretty sure that’s her M.O. Which probably explains why we weren’t at all surprised to see that the ad campaign for her new fragrance, Purr, features Perry dressed in a pink and purple latex catsuit, complete with leopard spots and a somewhat creepy plastic tail.
Have you ever wanted to smell like Beverly Hills? You haven’t? Well, now you can smell like it anyway, because the official neighborhood of the rich, famous and fabulous is releasing an entire line of beauty products designed to make you smell and look like what the essence of Beverly Hills. Or something. Pictured, Mayor Jimmy Delshad, the mastermind behind the licensing deal that allowed this to happen.
