Fashion designer Peter Som has already made a reputation based on his affinity for classic elegance with a quirky twist. Previously, though, Som’s designs were mostly relegated to high-end boutiques and red carpets.
Season three of Game Of Thrones premieres this Sunday and pretty much everyone is obsessed. We’re obsessed. Food sites are obsessed. Even Vogue editors are obsessed. But it’s obviously not the mass beheadings or Medieval machismo that have us hooked. It’s the runway ready fashion.
Young designers in the fashion industry may not always have it so easy, as Peter Som told us last night, but the 10 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists are getting a big boost with the help of Nordstrom.
We were surprised and intrigued to find out that Peter Som was canceling his fall 2013 women’s ready-to-wear show just weeks before he was scheduled for New York Fashion Week on February 8. But according to a press release, the designer is still technically showing his collection.
In a surprising turn of events, Peter Som has cancelled his fall 2013 women’s ready-to-wear runway show that was scheduled for February 8 at 10 AM at Milk Studios during New York Fashion Week.
Peter Som‘s spring show felt like a well-timed ode to the Rookie generation. A parade of models with cotton candy strands walked the runway yesterday morning in quirky veils and collared blouses that were at once nostalgic and whimsically youthful. The palette of ice cream parlor pastels lent a playful air to bustier tops and voluminous poplin skirts, while Som’s Earnest Sewn collaboration took Hawaiian board shorts far away from their surf shop roots to a, dare we say, elegant milieu.
Because of course they did.
Peter Som is leaving his consulting position at Tommy Hilfiger after five years. Som started his eponymous company in 2001, and was brought onto the Hilfiger team as a creative consultant in 2009 to refresh and modernize the label.
If you think the Easter bunny is just some cuddly creature carrying a basket of chocolates and Peeps, think again.
We never sit front row. We’re content being anonymous show watchers sitting (or often standing) in the back. But today something weird happened. We sat front row at Peter Som.
Paper‘s Mickey Boardman is a front row staple and one of the most quotable guys in the biz. We caught up with him at today’s Peter Som show to chat about reality TV and the Rachel Zoe-Brad Goreski feud.
Isn’t there something just so delightful about Rachel McAdams? She just has that spark. We know, we know — we sound like a mom. But we can’t help it! It’s that je ne sais quoi. Anyway, Rachel and her je ne sais quoi were out last night for the premiere of Journey To The Center Of The Earth 2 (don’t look at us), where she wore a floral maxi-skirt and matching short-sleeved, crew-neck top by Peter Som.
Peter Som has been showing a mix bold patterns and bright color for the last three seasons, so it’s comes as no surprise that now the practice is experiencing a moment, Som still does it best. His collection for Spring Summer 2011 is a very girly, very short and very colorful answer to the muted minimalism we’ve seen from Richard Chai, Rachel Comey and BCBG.
