Last week, Women’s Wear Daily published several oddly-timed stories about Paris Fashion Week. One piece by Miles Socha compared Hedi Slimane‘s Saint Laurent debut to Raf Simons‘ Christian Dior ready-to-wear. The general verdict is that everyone loved Simons’ collection, while Slimane’s collection was well-reviewed by retailers, but not so much by critics like Cathy Horyn. Naturally, the crew at Saint Laurent Paris didn’t like the article, so CEO Paul Deneve sent in a letter to the editors at WWD.
It’s a day of firsts for Kristen Stewart: not only did she make her first red carpet appearance for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 in Tokyo, but she also did it in fresh-from-the-runway Louis Vuitton. That lucky, lucky girl.
As much as we loved Cindy Crawford as the original host of MTV’s House of Style, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls are doing a mighty fine job themselves. Their first episode is out, and it follows the two during Paris Fashion Week from the hustle and bustle of backstage to the glamorous parties.
After all of the guests filed out of the venue following Raf Simons‘ debut ready-to-wear-show for Christian Dior (many of them to return to their hotels to write glowing reviews, as it turns out), the designer sat down for a short interview explaining the direction he took this season for the house. Or should we say haus? The designer has quite a strong Belgian accent, you see.
And the fashion feud continues!
Jennifer Lopez and beau Casper Smart looked like they enjoyed themselves at the Chanel show on Tuesday. However, the same could not be said for Lopez’s four-year-old daughter with Marc Anthony, Emme. In fact, she looked nearly as unimpressed in the front row as Olympian and Internet meme McKayla Maroney did getting a silver medal.
Last season, Marc Jacobs piled his models aboard the Louis Vuitton express, a custom-built steam engine that reportedly cost the house $8 million. This year he toned it down a tad, merely installing functional escalators for the LV girls to ride on their way down to the lemon yellow-and-white checked runway.
One of the stand-out pieces from Karl Lagerfeld‘s Chanel spring 2013 collection was the “hula hoop bag”. The bag in question is literally a giant quilted number held between two hula hoops. It’s impractical and unnecessary, but Karl obviously doesn’t think so.
Can we get an “amen”?
Carine Roitfeld really knows how to throw a parrr-tay. Last night, the CR Fashion Book editor-in-chief fêted her MAC collaboration with a very fancy fête in Paris, and of course, everyone was dressed to the nines.
If you’re planning on taking a beach holiday with Karl Lagerfeld anytime soon, don’t count on packing light. For starters, you’re going to have to save some space for what may be the world’s largest beach bag — an already-infamous quilted number suspended between a pair of hula hoops. And then there’s the headgear. For Spring 2013, Chanel offered wide-brimmed sun hats crafted from clear vinyl, fitting, perhaps to shade yourself from the rays streaming down on a runway crafted from faux solar-panels.
One thing is for sure: protestors in Paris could not care less about fashion week.
It’s every designer’s worst nightmare — well, one of them, at least: Hakaan‘s Spring 2013 show has been cancelled because a courier service lost the entire collection en route to Paris.
Paris Fashion Week draws an A-list yet eclectic mix of stars, like Kanye West, Robert de Niro, Kristen Stewart, and now Princess Charlene of Monaco. The royal sat front row at Akris this Sunday, and we’re pretty sure she wasn’t paid to do so.
We’ll admit we were pretty giddy with anticipation this morning as we watched the crowd settle down at Raf Simons’ first-ever ready-to-wear show for Christian Dior. Unfortunately, we were at our desks in New York rather than in the stark white box of a venue the brand set up on the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris, but that fact barely diminished our excitement. Between Twitter, Instagram, and livestreaming, there’s plenty to take in even if you’re 3,000 miles away.
Paris Fashion Week just got a double dose of Kristen Stewart! She showed up at the Balenciaga and Balmain shows this morning, and girl looked pretty damn good.
