The nominees for the Council of Fashion Designers of America‘s 2011 awards ceremony are set, and the list is more or less a roster of the coolest kids working in the industry. And when we say kids, we mean kids. Because for the most part, this year’s nominees are pretty young. Also: Lady Gaga was nominated!
You see a lot of things you don’t expect to see during New York Fashion Week: Men with beards wearing sequined evening gowns, Anna Wintour smiling at people, and Salman Rushdie sitting front row at Phillip Lim.
Last night Kanye debuted his short film “Runaway”, and we loved it. We may be unabashed ‘Ye fans, but this was objectively a beautiful little video. When the credits rolled, it was revealed that Phillip Lim collaborated on the wardrobe with noted theater costumer Martin Izquierdo and we loved it even more.
Wang, Wu, Lam, Lim. We’ve been coveting their goods for quite some time now. And while their aesthetics are quite variable, they all have something in common: their Asian heritage.

There’s always been something oddly intriguing about wearing a uniform. Today, WWD showcased three prep schools with a fashionably aware student body — Phillips Academy, Milton Academy, and Concord Academy. These schools may not have a uniform, but the girls are undoubtedly restricted to an official school dress code, as well as an unofficial one — which is directed by their prep school peers.
