Flash Fashion: Gucci’s Fringe-tastic, Super ’70s Style
Milan Fashion Week is in full swing, and while word on the street is that Miuccia Prada put out out a showstopping collection Thursday afternoon, Gucci‘s tribal-inspired, fringe-tastic collection was nothing to sniff at. More importantly, the collection confirmed that as much as the industry keeps shouting about ’90s-style minimalism, the ’70s are back — and in a big way.
PHOTOS: Verushka’s Army Of Supermodels Walk For Giles
In case you were wondering where all the big names were this season, it looks like they were resting their gams in preparation for the Giles Spring 2011 show in London. Giles Deacon, who was recently tapped to be Ungaro’s newest head designer, managed to wrangle — to name a few – Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha, Agyness Deyn, and 71-year-old supermodel and icon, Verushka.
PHOTOS: Shrouded Models Walk New Zealand Runway
Fashion designers do not merely design clothes, they create art. And as such, the purpose of a show is not to sell said clothes, but to make a statement. New Zealand designer Alexandra Owens chose to make her statement by having her models wear knit shrouds and fencing masks while walking down the runway.
FLASH FASHION: Tons Of Texture At Tibi
With a mix of neutrals and brights, the spring/summer 2011 collection from Tibi comes off as refreshing and oh-so-spring appropriate. Texture was the name of the game as designer Amy Smilovic infused her pieces with crochet, tweed, basketweave, pleating and lasercut fabrics.
FLASH FASHION: Jeremy Scott Made A Meat Dress, Too!
Jeremy Scott is as known for his fashion as he is known for his fashion statements, and Wednesday’s Spring / Summer 2011 collection was no exception. While last season Scott dedicated his show to Fashion (with a capital tongue-in-cheek ‘F’), his past shows have included commentary on religion and politics. We’re gonna go out on a limb here and guess that this season’s topic of choice was relationships or, perhaps more specifically, sex. Also, Kanye West was there!
PHOTOS: Ellen DeGeneres Closed The Richie Rich Show!
Richie Rich is a dramatic guy, so it’s no surprise that last night’s show was full of theatrics. Our favorite surprise? Oh, you know, the fact that Ellen DeGeneres closed the show amid confetti-spraying cannons.
FLASH FASHION: Quirky Colors, Drapey Cuts At Vena Cava
Vena Cava knows cool. A little bit boho, a little bit artsy — each season leaves us lusting for more. While we are excited for fall to kick into high gear (sweaters!), Vena Cava’s spring/summer 2011 collection has us daydreaming about flirty skirts and gauzy fabrics. The five best looks, after the jump.
PHOTOS: Elle And RISD Kick Off Fashion Week
Did you write a senior thesis in college? If the answer is yes, then there’s a pretty big chance that after working slavishly for hundreds of hours, it faded into the academic ether never to be seen again — let alone published. But for 20 lucky RISD grads, their senior theses were shown at New York Fashion Week.
PHOTOS: Keira Knightley Rides A Motorcycle For Chanel
While Keira Knightley was named the new face of Chanel back in 2007 — when she starred in the decidedly nude ad campaign for the brand’s Mademoiselle fragrance, we haven’t seen her in any Chanel copy since 2009. But this weekend, photos surfaced of Knightley clad in an all suede, all beige bodysuit, paired with matching cap-toed boots and riding a matching Ducati motorcycle — so very Chanel.
Does This V Cover Mean Marc And Gaga Are Frenemies?
Despite laughing along while Anna Wintour bashed her on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Marc Jacobs is sharing the October cover of V magazine with none other than Lady Gaga.
Christina Hendricks Models Scarves For London Fog, Etsy
Christina Hendricks may already be everyone’s favorite on Mad Men, but now she can add model to her resume. The flame-haired actress has been moonlighting as a scarf model for fellow actress and friend Tamara Mello, who sells her wares on Etsy and played Lily Esposito on the WB’s Popular. And on top of that, British brand London Fog has tapped Hendricks as the face of their Fall/Winter campaign.
PHOTOS: Angelina Jolie Sparkles In Paris
We’ve been giving Angelina Jolie a rough time of late, harping on her for wearing too little color or for shrouding her figure in sack-waisted dresses. Now, either the fashion gods are listening — or Jolie’s stylist is, because she showed up for the Paris premiere of Salt in a shimmering, creamy white cocktail dress with a deep v-neck, nipped waist, and asymmetrical straps. We’ll forgo the color if she continues to look like this.
PHOTOS: 6 Celebrities Who Should Never Make A Fragrance
When we heard the Sex Pistols were releasing their own perfume, our nostrils flared at the thought of smelling like patchouli layered over B.O. and booze. Suffice it to say: not everyone deserves their very own scent — though it may seem as though bottling up your very own eau is a free-for-all feat.
Did i-D Succumb To Kate And Naomi’s Cover Drama?
Last month, rumor had it that Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Lady Gaga were in a bit of a catfight over i-D’s September issue, after the Fame Monster was added to the shooting schedule at the last minute. A source told The Daily Mail that Moss and Campbell refused to “play second fiddle” to Gaga, which resulted in “three covers from three separate shoots.” Now i-D has released the three covers. Which is your favorite?
Mary-Kate Gets The Triple Cover Treatment In Marie Claire
We’ll admit, when we first saw Mary-Kate Olsen‘s cover for the September issue of Marie Claire, we were a little surprised. But, aside from the shapelessness of the green coat, we had to give MC credit for thinking out of the box. And now it turns out that they weren’t just experimenting with one cover, they were experimenting with three.
PHOTOS: Strange Style At Last Night’s Teen Choice Awards
It’s always fun to see a summer red carpet, particularly at an event as typically playful as the Teen Choice Awards. The event — and its attendees — are young enough and fun enough to make for an exciting and fashion-forward showing. Unfortunately, last night’s awards ceremony was full of strange patterns and awkward colors, and left us wondering: is this really what the kids are wearing these days? Or is it just bad?
Banana Republic Model Really Likes His Herringbone Pants
We spend a lot of time on Styleite calling out retailers, brands, and magazines for excessive use of Photoshop, but this is one instance in which someone could have been a little more heavy-handed. Click through for the somewhat NSFW photo.
PHOTOS: Posh & Polished Puppies!
It would be selfish, if not heartless, of us to not keep these photos to ourselves, particularly because they focuses on a subject we all live to love: fashion. Here are some of our favorite style-conscious canines. We think it best to let the photos speak for themselves.
Did Playboy France Photoshop Lara’s Ladybits? (NSFW)
Lara Stone has mastered the art of posing nude, so it comes to no surprise that the voluptuous model is smoldering for the cameras in French Playboy’s June 2010 issue. But while Barbie comparisons — at least when it comes to models — are not normally a bad thing, we think the mag might have taken things one step too far…
GALLERY: Swim Week’s 10 Most Outrageous Swimsuits
As a swimsuit designer, there’s not much wiggle room when you’re trying to transform a sheet of lycra fabric into a something made up of two triangles and a pair of glorified underwear. So what’s a designer to do within the limitations of a “wearable” swimwear?
