WATCH: The Making Of The Pirelli Calendar
The annual Pirelli calendar is usually very, very naked, but this year’s is quite the opposite. Instead Steve McCurry, who lensed the iconic “Portrait of a Girl with Green Eyes” National Geographic cover, photographed philanthropic models like Karlie Kloss, Liya Kebede, pregnant Adriana Lima, and more — all fully-clothed. A few shots from the calendar are already out, and now we’ve got a beautiful behind-the-scenes look of McCurry at work.

The relationship between Pirelli Tires and their annual calendar of naked, big-name models shot by high fashion photographers has long been a confounding one. Last year, Milla Jovovich attempted to shed some light on it by venturing that “there’s like, this kind of relationship going on between these really strong tires and these really strong women.” Which we guess is one way to look at it. This year, however, the company has switched up its calendar game big time.

The 2012 Pirelli calendar won’t be unveiled until December, but images of the racy annal have already started leaking online. Shot by Mario Sorrenti in Corsica earlier this summer, the photos leaked so consist of nude, nearly nude, and basically nude images of Lara Stone, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Saskia de Brauw, Isabeli Fontana, and actress Rinko Kikuchi (who we, personally, think was an inspired choice.)
