Back in the day — 2008 to be exact — there was a quirky young girl who lived in Illinois and took photos of herself, most often outside of what readers assumed was her home, wearing what were considered pretty outlandish outfits for an 11 year old. She put those photos, along with her other musings, on a blog. Now, Tavi and her style are all grown up (well, almost).
“Tavi Gevinson may take over the world while you read this,” proclaims CNN‘s profile of the media wunderkind, blogging sensation, and teen-geared online magazine Rookie. Not to brag or anything, but we saw that one coming a long time ago. Tavi, of course, insists that, far from plotting world domination, she’s currently just busy watching Nickelodeon movies.
If you needed any more proof that Tavi Gevinson is one cool teen, just watch her recent interview on Access Hollywood.
Okay, this is admittedly a bit of a fangirl post, but Tavi Gevinson (our and Leandra Medine‘s favorite person on the internet) and her stylish crew just threw a massive bash at the super-trendy Ace Hotel in NYC to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Rookie Magazine. And we totally wish we had been there.

If being jealous of a pair of teenage girls is wrong, then we don’t want to be right. We’ve dedicated a lot of words to praising web phenom Tavi Gevinson and an almost equal amount to the ethereal adorableness that is Elle Fanning, so you can imagine our tween-at-heart brains almost exploded when we saw that Tavi had interviewed Elle for her new site, Rookie.
Today The Early Show broke news of a tween fashion blogger turned teen media mogul. Her name is Tavi Gevinson. Have you heard of her?
Today Scott Schuman gave an interview that blew our minds in a really horrible way, and proved that the man behind The Sartorialist is cripplingly out of touch.
There were many reasons we were excited to attend last night’s Advanced Style party, not the least of which was the chance to bump into co-host Tavi Gevinson. More on the party later (spoiler alert: it was our favorite of the week), but first let’s discuss the awesomeness that is the Style Rookie.
Tavi Gevinson‘s new teen-targeted site, Rookie, launched today. And while we spent the morning poking around and waxing nostalgic about our high school years, two of our favorite fellow style sites spoke with Tavi about the idea, ethos, and inspiration behind the e-zine.
