This week, in hotel rooms all over Cannes, meticulously-packed gowns are being unloaded from their trunks in preparation for the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Since we’re way across the Atlantic Ocean, we’re preparing by taking a look back at our absolute favorite looks to come out of the French Riviera in the past five years. Somehow we even managed to restrain ourselves from making this a solo gallery of Diane Kruger — for the most part.
Feeling uninspired this Monday morning? Not to worry: we know just the trick to get you jazzed and ready to channel your inner Beyoncé, Hillary Clinton, and Salma Hayek. Who run the world?
Tune in with us to assess the style choices of Hollywood’s major players at tonight’s Golden Globes ceremony.
So many fancy red carpets last night! Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, and more attended the premiere of Savages in Los Angeles, while Elizabeth Banks and Coco Rocha showed up at the screening of People Like Us, and Tika Sumpter graced the red carpet for the premiere of Madea’s Witness Protection in New York. But which coast had the best dressed lady? Let’s dissect the looks.
We’ve been dying to see Prometheus ever since we first watched one of its goosebump-inducing trailers and now our wait is almost up. The Ridley Scott film premiered in London last night, with stars Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace walking the red carpet alongside Salma Hayek, Minnie Driver, and, somewhat inexplicably, Peaches Geldof.
And so the French Riviera’s fashion jubilee continues!
Inside the actress talks acne, life in Paris, and how her close friend Demi Moore is holding up.
Salma Hayek had quite a busy holiday weekend! The actress is on a whirlwind world premiere tour for Puss In Boots, and in the past few days alone she’s hit up London, Rome, and Sydney.
Just a month ago it was revealed that PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault fathered Linda Evangelista‘s 4-year-old son Augustin James. This was super scandalous! Of course, neither the supermodel nor her high-powered baby daddy ever wanted the secret to get out — that is, until Evangelista took Pinault to Manhattan Family Court for child support.
You may know François-Henri Pinault as the CEO of PPR, that big ol’ conglomerate that owns Gucci Group, which includes Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga. You may also know him as Salma Hayek‘s husband. You probably don’t know him as Linda Evangelista‘s baby daddy. But, hey, he is!
No, that’s not a photo from one of the stylish years in the 1960s you’re looking at. That lovely photo of Salma Hayek was taken just last night at a dinner held during the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s biggest contemporary art festivals. And while Hayek was busy celebrating the ‘Il Mondo Vi Appartiene’ exhibit, we’d be happy just to talk about this outfit. (And wait til you see it in color!)
This morning we promised you plenty of Cannes-focused red carpet coverage, and now you’ve got it. The film festival kicked off last night with an opening ceremony feted by the stylish likes of Uma Thurman, Salma Hayek, Rachel McAdams, and Fan Bing Bing — all of whom looked stunning and none of whom (in our humble opinion) held a candle to Ines de la Fressange, who wore embellished, flat sandals with her custom Carven gown. But that’s just our opinion. What’s yours?
When we heard Salma Hayek was debuting a line of beauty products, called Nuance, we got pretty excited, because we love beauty products and we love Salma Hayek. When we heard it was going to be sold exclusively at CVS, we got even more excited because we LOVE affordable stuff. But it was when we heard that Hayek isn’t just the face of this brand, but actually worked on it as though she’d been a trained dermatologist, that we nearly lost our minds.
This year’s Met Gala celebrated the genius of Alexander McQueen. The Costume Institute‘s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit opens tomorrow, and breathtaking doesn’t even begin to describe it. But more on that later! The Met Gala is arguably the most fashionable event of the year, so it’s no surprise than many of the A-list guests dressed in keeping with the fashionable McQueen theme.
By now you probably know that LVMH is trying to take over Hermès. Despite stating that “LVMH has no intention of launching a tender offer, taking control of Hermès, nor seeking board representation,” Hermès thinks LVMH’s intentions are less than noble. Yeah, they’re pissed. So in a move that said “F off, Bernard!” Hermès invited Salma Hayek to a cocktail party celebrating the opening of its Left Bank megastore. Hayek is, of course, wife to PPR chief (and LVMH rival) François-Henri Pinault.
When we think turbans, we think Prada. (We also think Sultan from Aladdin, but that’s besides the point.) When models paraded down Prada’s spring/summer 2007 runway in the Eastern-inspired headgear, they set off a virtual turban flurry that then quickly subsided. But alas! The turban is back in action!
