Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations Page 1
Yesterday we made our way to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to see a talk for the Costume Institute‘s Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibit. It was a conversation, and an entirely possible one at that, between Tavi Gevinson and Iris Apfel. And yet, a discussion about personal style between a 16-year-old and a 90-year-old did seem rather impossible: how could two women so far apart in age have a cohesive exchange about something that transforms so much with the passing of time?
After last year’s blockbuster Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit, the Costume Institute had a dilemma. How could it possibly top such a remarkable show? The answer, of course, is it couldn’t.
We never thought we’d end up with so much Prada on the worst dressed list for an event in honor of the brand, but it just goes to show that label isn’t everything. On an evening where everyone’s watching (and werking) there really is no room for error.
This year’s Met Gala just got a lot more inclusive. According to one of the best press releases we received in a while, red carpet arrivals will be live-streamed for two glorious hours on the Metropolitan Museum website, Vogue.com, and Amazon.
