London’s menswear shows are proving particularly addictive to browse through this season, and not (just) because of the models. Here are five trends we’ve had our eye on from the Spring 2014 runways, from the visor-like sunnies at Burberry to Meadham Kirchhoff’s high-fashion plastics. In the gallery below, we’ve come one oxford-clad step closer to beating the London lads at their own game.
Each summer morning it’s the same old debate: give your poor soles a break in flats or throw on heels for vanity’s sake and suffer the consequences. For so long, we didn’t think a happen medium (okay, an attractive one) existed between the two. Then, along came the chunky heel trend and the mid-height sandal in its wake. Bid a tearful goodbye to those raffia wedges of yester-season, these are your new summer staple.
Confession: We are unabashed freaks for Solange’s high-octane style and find ourselves trying to channel the soulstress with every purchase we make for summer. We may not have her slinky legs or big hair, but we still manage to find any way we can to emulate her eye-catching warm weather looks. For example: blinding brights, kaleidoscopic prints, color-blocking, statement accessories, micro-mini silhouettes… Shop them all right here.
Graduation’s even more harrowing than tying the knot — it comes with finals, finding a job and oh, adulthood — so we’ve taken pity on you soon-to-be-grown-ups and chosen some school spirit-y sandals for your big day.
Just because the Costume Institute is putting on “PUNK: From Chaos to Couture” this year doesn’t mean we’re quite ready to commit to head-to-toe ensembles held together by safety pins. We will, however, add a dash of punk with studded belts that make every outfit look more badass. Don’t worry, these aren’t the wide, studded ones you used to get from Hot Topic.
It might be May, but I’m still in my sweater and jeans uniform. I’ve traded in the cozy cashmere styles I wore all throughout the winter for thin knits that can be layered over tanks or under cardigans for the less-than-predictable temps here in NYC. The tricks to wearing a sweater in spring and not sweat your pants off are in the loose knitting, sheer panels, and strategically placed holes. These seven fit the MO and budget.
With so many different brands on the market, it’s easy to buy clothes and accessories without really getting to know the company’s mission.
