And the CFDA Goes To…Annual Awards Honor In Fashion

MarcJacobs

Amidst all the models, Swarovski crystals and Paltrow‘s very high ponytail, it’s easy forget that the CFDA awards are actually a competition. You know, one that involves creative kudos just slightly more legitimate than “best dressed.” So not to seem remiss in our duties as your source of sartorial news (wouldn’t want you to be uninformed around the water cooler) it’s our great pleasure to inform you that this year’s circle o’winners was about as predictable as each is genius.

Victoria Beckham Designs For Women With Actual Jobs

victoriabeckham

Apparently loving suits from a-far just wasn’t enough for Victoria Beckham, so she’s taken it upon herself to create a capsule collection of tailored separates.

Vogue Proves It’s Passe, Features Ex-First Lady of Japan

pmwife

The inner lover of questionable fashion choices in us was pulling for Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyamto to come out of his sartorial scandal unscathed. But we definitely had less of a stake than the ladies at Vogue who spent big bucks to shoot a story on Miyuki Hatoyama, the PM’s wife, for their August issue.

The Gap Ups The Ante (And The Prices) With CFDA Collabs

thumbnail

Like everyone else, we’ve been itching for a peek at the collections from the winner’s of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund created in exclusive collaboration with The Gap. Well, itch no more. Today designs from the likes of Monique Péan, Patrik Ervell and Sophie Theallet will be unveiled at a special pop-up shop at the Gap’s Fifth Avenue store.

Is Under Over? Milan Makes A Case For Socks Over Shoes

77303_1_468

We’d barely just come to terms with wearing socks under our sandals and already the fashion industry has thrown another sartorial curveball at us: socks over shoes! Spotted cruising down the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year, we can’t decide whether to just laugh this one off (like we tried to do with anti-embolism stockings) or get a little worried.

Philip Treacy Thinks Brad Pitt Should Play Him In Blow Biopic

0-philip

Master milliner Philip Treacy has never been known for his close proximity to reality — after all, the man makes hats for Lady Gaga — or for his acting talents. So, though slightly disappointed, we can’t say we’re all that shocked to hear the mad hatter doesn’t plan on following in Galliano’s footsteps and play himself in the maybe happening Isabella Blow biopic.

Don’t Call Alexander Wang’s New Line ‘Business Casual’

0-wang

When Alexander Wang so much as breathes, every model off duty and her accompanying entourage stops and sharpens pencils. So you’ve got to imagine the hush that came over the room (and the kid-in-a-candy store looks) when the downtown-friendly designer gave word that he was planning a new line and a shiny storefront. Talk about coming out of the recession unscathed.

PHOTOS: Willie Nelson And Lance Bass Embrace The Lob

As The Seventeen Magazine Project brilliantly illustrates, pig-tails — especially after the age of 5 — are a hot-button issue. But we’ve always just made an exception for Willie Nelson. After all, the guy is pushing 80 and has been sporting this trademark tresses since forever. But, no more.

Style Swoon: The Backpack Spawns The Back-Case

0-backcase

Now we knew the backpack was good-looking. But turns out, it’s also quite promiscuous. Of course, its tawdry affairs with the satchel (see: the Batchel) are old news but seems its philandering just cannot be strapped down. Feast your eyes on the latest in spork fashion: The back-case!

Ann Taylor And Talbots Think You’ll Spend $300 On A Bag

PJ-AV159_bagsJU_G_20100526174114

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery but you’ve got to believe that somewhere (most likely a sun-drenched cottage in Montauk) J.Crew-guru Jenna Lyons is getting a little steamed. I mean, how would you feel if a handful of your rivals decided to pilfer through your carefully orchestrated playbook and copy your every move?

Chic In The Chain! Styleite Shops At Wal-Mart

0-walmart

Speaking chic, Wal-Mart has never earned top billing among tastemakers. Sure it’s fine for off-market essentials like socks, but it’s probably not the sort of plastic bag you’d be seen toting around with gusto. Carcinogenic collaborations aside, we entreat you to reconsider, because after cruising the aisles we happened upon some decidedly non-toxic and surprising stylish wares.

Before Marc, YSL Got Naked To Sell Cologne

Hot on the heels of Marc Jacobs’ big Bang ad comes the news that a nude of Yves Saint Laurent will go up for auction in Paris this June. As Vogue has it, the stir creating portrait was used for the 1971 advertising campaign for the first YSL eau de toilette for men, Pour Homme.

Louis Vuitton Bags Are Not Actually Handmade By Models

lv

Thought your Louis Vuitton Speedy duffle was hand-made by a porcelain-skinned model at a magical castle in France? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, well, it wasn’t. In fact, according to the Advertising Standards Authority, the bags are made (just like everything else) on regular old sewing machines.

Uncle Sam To Auction Off Taxidermy Treasure Trove

0t-axi

Looking to lend a little authenticity to your J. Brand Houlihans and surplus jacket?  Forget the Arturo Fuente (Hemingway‘s cigar of choice) and 5-barrel shot gun, and break out your bidding paddles because word is Uncle Sam has got a garage full of tiger heads he’s dying to get rid of.

Why Are Fashion Mags Starting To Look Like Tiger Beat?

0-elle

Be honest — you’ve probably never given to much thought as to why you buy a magazine. Needless to say, it’s not a something the industry takes lightly. And now they’re looking past the typical celebs and pinning their last editorial chips on underaged and under-covered starlets like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus or the cast of Gossip Girl

Chinese Tennis Tourney Enlists Bikini Models As Ball Girls

xin_02211032710339211231468

Despite its country club reputation, tennis is a pretty sexy sport — what other game allows kicky pleated skirts, grunting and even the occasional on-court mooning? But apparently not even a glimpse at Venus’ bum was enough for the organizers of the Chinese International Tennis tournament who, in a move to spark the interest of the young and fashionable, have enlisted a slew of bikini clad models to play ball girls.

Texas Town Says Edible Undies Could Pose a Health Hazard

0-lingerie

It’s not too often that fashion news earns front page billing. But seems in San Antonio they take their edible lingerie pretty seriously because live in late breaking news: A new city regulation has some panties in a bunch. In an exclusive story, reporters scooped the firestorm of controversy brewing over whether Shades of Love lingerie –a racy, area sex shop — should be required to have a food permit for its edible X-rated wares.

i-D Shoots Behati And Her BF For Some Summer Lovin’

0-behati

Save for the occasional cash-register impulse buy, it’s rare when we plunk down the $5 on a magazine. But i-D’s steamy summer issue is making a pretty good case for itself — and not only to see Miranda Kerr’s freakish waxing episodes up close. Upon further flip through the fold, we discovered “Meet Me At The Corner,” an equally sexy editorial that captures the body heat of two strangers in the midst of a one-night tryst.

Gaga Works It, Lands An Internship With Phillip Treacy

0-gags

To be honest we thought Gaga‘s plate was totally full — what with the requisite hourly costume changes and outfit brainstorming sessions, not to mention the effort that it must take to walk a centimeter in those ubiquitous hoof shoes. Anyway, it seems being the world’s most notorious fame monster wasn’t enough — Gaga’s now out to conquer the glamourous world of millinery.
