Summer’s Eve Page 1
This week Kate Moss got the Carrie Bradshaw treatment and Kate Middleton wore a floral pancake hat. LOVE Magazine totally ruled, plus-size model secrets were exposed, and Rachel Zoe‘s baby son got us all envious. Also, OMFG Mariah Carey.
Following a week’s worth of web-based backlash and one thoroughly hilarious segment on The Colbert Report, Summer’s Eve has decided to pull all three of their racially stereotyped talking vagina ads. But just to be clear, public relations executive Stacie Barnett told AdWeek that the ads weren’t meant to be offensive, just relatable. Ohhhh. Wait, what?
On last night’s Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert tackled those racially-targeted Summer’s Eve ads featuring talking vagina hands. But while we took issue with their ethnic stereotyping and vagina-shaming tactics, Colbert complained that there aren’t any equally insulting ads made for men. So he did what any self respecting news comedian would do and made one himself.
Just when we thought Summer’s Eve ads couldn’t get any worse, they got racist. Because not all vaginas are created equal, Summer’s Eve has released three separate campaign videos with which to shame your ladyparts, depending, of course, on whether you’re Black, Caucasian, or Latina.
Are you a woman? Do you want a raise? Have you checked to make sure your vagina doesn’t smell? Then you’re set! According to a full page Summer’s Eve advertorial in Women’s Day magazine, the first step to getting a raise is douching. We wish we were joking.
