Tavi Gevinson Page 2
Rookie Editor and World’s Coolest Teen Tavi Gevinson announced earlier this week in an editor’s letter on the site that Rookie’s first-ever print edition will be available this September. Be still, our hearts.
Yesterday we made our way to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to see a talk for the Costume Institute‘s Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibit. It was a conversation, and an entirely possible one at that, between Tavi Gevinson and Iris Apfel. And yet, a discussion about personal style between a 16-year-old and a 90-year-old did seem rather impossible: how could two women so far apart in age have a cohesive exchange about something that transforms so much with the passing of time?
Tavi Gevinson gave her very first TED talk at TEDxTeen, and she schooled the audience on “figuring it out”.
Tavi Gevinson stars in Wren‘s new short film showcasing the brand’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection. In it, the 15-year-old shows off a few of her many talents – singing, strumming a guitar, strolling moodily through a forest, and, of course, wearing some very cute dresses.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful, fashion week is hard on everyone. So it’s nice to hear that someone as “celebrated” — which is to say: someone with a front-row invite — finds it just as high school-ish and uncomfortable as we do.
Tavi Gevinson is wise beyond her years.
What a day for Orla Kiely! The British designer we discovered courtesy of Kate Middleton’s coat dress this morning is apparently collaborating with Uniqlo on a collection which debuted today. Even more exciting is the fact that Cyndi Lauper and Tavi Gevinson are starring in the campaign.
We’ve been trying our hardest to internet ignore Lana del Rey, but the buzz surrounding the surprisingly controversial artist is getting harder and harder to drown out. Earlier this week, Tavi Gevinson voiced her defense of del Rey to our friends at both Refinery29 and The Cut — and then yesterday she took in the Rodarte show what can only be described as a pitch perfect homage to the singer. Coincidence? We think not.
When we heard there was going to be a screening for Cadaver — a short animated film voiced by Kathy Bates, Christopher Lloyd, and Tavi Gevinson — complete with a live performance of “Heart of Gold” by Tavi, we knew we wanted to be there. A midnight viewing party on a Sunday night in the middle of Fashion Week that also happens to coincide with the Grammys is generally something we deem skippable, but we had a feeling this would be special.
Fashion week officially kicks off today — and what better way to ring in a new season of clothes, an entirely unnecessary amount of street style photos, and the CW’s biggest starlets than with a video of Rookie editor Tavi Gevinson packing for the New York shows.
She’s gone from tween fashion blogger to publishing magnate, and now Tavi Gevinson can add voiceover actress to the mix.
The BBC conducted a beautifully shot interview with Tavi Gevinson, and it’s really worth a watch. The video below takes place in Tavi’s bedroom, replete with a lofted bed, tons of records, and 90210 stickers. Her guitar strumming plays in the background while she talks about what it was like breaking into the fashion world four [...]
Without a doubt, the single best event we went to last Fashion Week was the Advanced Style party co-hosted by Tavi Gevinson. The music and the guest list were pitch perfect — from Ira Glass to the incredibly fashionable women of Ari Seth Cohen‘s fantastic street style blog.
We don’t know what’s in the water in Chicago, but apparently Tavi Gevinson isn’t the Second City’s only teen phenom. Meet 16-year-old Spencer Tweedy, son of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy and fellow musician. More exciting, though, is the fact that the two made a music video together.
Great fashion moments aren’t just relegated to great fashion people. 2011 was the year newscasters provided us with some of our favorite fashion moments — from excellent style choices to fun interviews to downright hysterical coverage.
This week there was a lot to love — Tavi singing Joni Mitchell, Lea T snagging another magazine cover, a brave girl giving an awesome makeup tutorial. But there was also a whole lot to hate. Justin Bieber ruined Christmas! Terry Richardson remained really creepy! Little girls got bikini waxes!
If you needed another reason to love Tavi Gevinson, her gorgeous cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Case of You” (which she dedicated to Mindy Kaling, natch) should do nicely.
There’s no real peg to this story, other than the fact that it’s two of our favorite teens, Hailee Steinfeld and Tavi Gevinson hanging out at Disneyland! But basically, the photos make us happy and (in a remarkable first) actually a little nostalgic for our teenage years.
