TIME WARP: Queen Elizabeth Takes Her Grandchildren Horseback Riding
Few things are more irresistible than cute kids with British accents. Throw in the fact that they’re members of the royal family, and you’ve got video gold. Add in Queen Elizabeth, and, well, it just doesn’t get much better than this.
TIME WARP: 3-Year-Old Prince William Plays Piano With Baby Prince Harry
Just when we thought Prince Harry couldn’t get any cuter, we see a video of him as a baby. And yeah, toddler Prince William is pretty cute, too.
TIME WARP: Olsen Twin Music Videos, Then And Now
When we saw Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s latest video, it made us nostalgic for the Olsen videos of yore. They sang! They wore silly outfits! They totally ruled!
TIME WARP: Kris Jenner’s Music Video Introduces World To Kardashians
We’ll admit it, sometimes we suffer from Kardashian fatigue just like the rest of you. But the music video Kris Jenner made in honor of her 30th birthday back in 1985 is simply amazing.
TIME WARP: Do You Know What These Vintage Ads Are Selling?
No, really, let’s discuss these old school advertisements.
TIME WARP: Vintage Tie Ad Knows The Way To A Woman’s Heart Is Terror
Not that modern day ads are necessarily any better, but this vintage print ad for Van Heusen’s extra manly, “power-packed” ties really takes the misogynist cake.
TIME WARP: 24-Year-Old Janice Dickinson Tells It Like It Is
Janice Dickinson may be an unabashed fan of plastic surgery, but the self-proclaimed “first supermodel” hasn’t changed a whole lot since she was a mere 20-something.
TIME WARP: Supers Reign Supreme In Epic 1995 John Galliano Show
Last week was Dior’s first couture show in 14 years without John Galliano at the helm. And people hated it. The embattled designer is still awaiting sentencing for his public insult trial, though Bernard Arnault has stated Galliano will never work for LVMH again. That is all to say, his future is uncertain, but we do know a thing or two about his professional past.
TIME WARP: Wild & Whimsical Steven Arpad Shoes From The 1930s
Outrageous footwear didn’t start with Noritaka Tatehana or Alexander McQueen — crazy awesome shoes have been around for quite a while. Steven Arpad was known for his inventive take on women’s footwear, and his designs date back to the 1930s.
TIME WARP: ’90s Gap Commercials Totally Ruled
Last week we discussed the whole “making Gap fun again” thing, and it got us thinking about our favorite Gap ads. We’ve already posted the Patrick Wilson/Claire Danes commercial from 2007, but today we’re going way back in the archives.
TIME WARP: ‘Saucy’ Performers In Fabulous Old School Costumes
Vintage pictures are the best, aren’t they? Today’s throwback comes to us courtesy of the New York Times. Back in the day (that is, the teens, ’20s, and ’30s) the Times ran a weekly supplement featuring “saucy publicity shots of female performers.” And the photos are amazing.
TIME WARP: YSL Banned Anna Wintour From Fashion Shows
Nine years ago, Yves Saint Laurent retired from the fashion world. This was a very, very big deal. In fact, it was so big of a deal that Charlie Rose invited Anna Wintour to discuss the announcement on his talk show back in January of 2002. The entire interview with (brunette!) Wintour is fascinating, but we were most shocked to find out that YSL once banned the world’s most famous editrix from his fashion shows.
TIME WARP: Jackie Kennedy Stays Dry On Inauguration Eve
Is there anything more delightful than a good Time Warp on a chilly Thursday? In this case, no — and especially not when it’s a never before seen photo of Jacqueline Kennedy walking through a snowstorm to get to her husband’s inauguration gala. Yes, even first ladies get wet when it rains.
TIME WARP: Hear Coco Chanel Speak In Her First TV Interview!
We (well, I) don’t speak a word of French, but this 1959 Coco Chanel interview (what is supposedly her first on television) is still totally and utterly fascinating.
TIME WARP: 1961 Dior Show In Vintage Fashion Newsreel
Fashion Week is quickly approaching, and it’s hard to remember a time when collections weren’t available for immediate digital consumption after a show was held. Of course, this is a very new development. But then how did people get their fashion news back in the day? Newsreels, for one.
TIME WARP: Cindy Crawford Shows How To Tone Your Butt
The Amazonian supermodels of the ’90s sure had a lot of fun. They always seemed to be dancing and giggling and having a genuinely good time. And as we’ve noted before, they looked fresh and healthy. Perhaps Cindy Crawford‘s exercise regimens were partially responsible?
TIME WARP: Karl Lagerfeld Stars In VH1 Fashion Awards Clip
Remember the VH1 Fashion Awards? They were such a thing back in the day! They were even the inspiration for Zoolander! The last time they were held was in 2002, but the show’s archives are full of awesome fashion-related ephemera. Like Fat Karl.
WATCH: The Mystery Of The Mislabeled Vintage Pirelli Shoot
It’s no secret that we love ourselves a vintage video around here — and half the reason we love them is the mystery! What year was it? Where is the accompanying editorial spread? Can we name every model and figure out the photographer? It’s like a super fun game of fashion trivia. But today, dear readers, we found one that stumped us. Featuring Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, and three unknown models, the clip is described as a “Rare Pirelli” video, but we’re not so sure. Can you help us out?
TIME WARP: What Karl Lagerfeld Looked Like At 21
In 1955, the then 21-year-old Karl Lagerfeld entered the International Wool Secretariat‘s design competition (think CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund, but way, way earlier and way less involved) and competed against Yves Saint Laurent. Saint Laurent won, but Lagerfeld took home second place for this awesome camel coat. Could either of the young men have known then what kind of impact they’d have on the fashion industry? Perhaps not, but this video, as short as it is, marks an immeasurably important point in fashion history.
TIME WARP: Justin Timberlake Says Merry Christmas
We’re not sure if it’s all these gift guides or our festive zebra, but we’re really getting into the holiday spirit this week. With Hannukah well underway and Christmas going down in t-minus 18 days, we bring you a very special holiday greeting courtesy of a teenage Justin Timberlake.
