And maybe it’s because we gorged ourselves on beauty during the Royal Wedding, but we weren’t all that impressed with what we saw on the red carpet at this year’s event.

In the grand scheme of fashion events, the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner doesn’t usually rank very high. There’s a red carpet and some lovely dresses and everything, but other than what First Lady Michelle Obama is wearing, there usually isn’t a style story there. But that’s going to change this year, when some pretty big fashion names will take seats next to some of the most notable names in journalism.

Saturday night’s annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a relatively star-studded event — this is D.C. we’re talking about, here — and it’s always fun to parse the sartorial stylings of a red carpet event in our nation’s capital. Unsurprisingly, the guests played it fairly safe, if certainly colorful. And in case you were wondering, yes, Michelle Obama looked stunning.
