White House Page 1
As we’ve seen from the pictures that have emerged over the past few weeks, the White House does not skimp on the holiday decorations. Nope, no dollar store tinsel or half-heartedly hung wreaths around here. This year, the building boasted 54 Christmas trees, a 300-pound White House replica, an eerily accurate rendering of First dog Bo Obama, and halls festooned with garlands, bows, and twinkling lights a’ plenty. But how did it all come together?
We love David Beckham, and generally think the man can do no wrong. But apparently he can!
You already know Jenna Lyons is a busy, busy lady. As president and executive creative director of J Crew she is responsible for overseeing an ever-growing empire of chambray shirts, sequined pants, and featherlight cashmere. She has also paid a visit to the White House – but not without some minor complications.
The American fashion establishment is not going to be happy about this. First Lady of fashion (and you know, our country) Michelle Obama attended the annual White House Halloween Party on Saturday wearing a knockoff of one of Diane von Furstenberg‘s dresses.
Michelle Obama hasn’t exactly come out to say that that photo of her at Target wasn’t staged, but she will say this: She takes secret trips off the White House grounds a lot more often than you would think.
Remember “Take Your Daughter to Work Day”? Well, now it’s “Take Your Daughter and Son to Work Day”, and First Lady Michelle Obama got in on the action, chatting up a group of White House kids during yesterday’s festivities. As always, she had some pragmatic words about style.
In case you haven’t heard, Barack Obama is currently vacationing with his family in Hawaii — a land of turquoise water, white beaches, and the setting for those 2008 photos of a buff and shirtless President that captured the imagination of wonks and everyday civilians alike. This year, the White House is doing everything in its power to prevent another round of Presidential pectoral pics by actively ordering reporters not not to snap any shirtless pics while Obama is snorkeling.
First lady Michelle Obama‘s visit to New York marks the second time in recent history that a member of the first family has flown north to mingle with fashion’s elite. And while the doyennes of the Garment District might rejoice when the Obamas come to town, each visit invokes a little more of the ire of Washington’s social set.
The US soccer team got a presidential sendoff last week, visiting the White House to shake hands and pose for pictures with President Obama, Vice President Biden and former President Clinton before departing for South Africa. But in addition to all the well-wishing, meeting and greeting, the team got some presidential snaps for its sartorial choices.
