Women’s Wear Daily Gives Ben Bernanke’s Style An A-

0-thumb

Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke may have had a rough go of it lately, but he’s apparently killing it in his closet every morning. Trade bible Women’s Wear Daily highlighted Bernanke in their recurring “Man of the Week” feature, lauding the former Princeton professor for even-handed style and the way his suit finds a “good balance between strong and not overpowering.”

What ‘Inappropriate Behavior’ Caused This Vogue Editor’s Exit?

Magazine shakeups always pique our interest, but Women’s Wear Daily‘s take on the departure of Vogue senior accessories editor Filipa Fino is certainly interesting.

Marc Jacobs Doesn’t Care That Justin Bieber’s Perfume Looks Like His

At next week’s CFDA Awards, Marc Jacobs will take the podium to receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. (And, yes, he’s only 48. A deserving 48, but 48 nonetheless.) Women’s Wear Daily‘s Bridget Foley sat down with the prolific designer for a lengthy interview, and while you really should read the whole thing, we’ve parsed our favorite parts just for you.

The Olsens Gift Each Other ‘Impressive’ Diamonds, Hermes Bags

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen won’t find out if they won the CFDA’s award for Emerging Talent until the ceremony next week, but the press they got in today’s issue of Women’s Wear Daily says it all. The industry paper dedicated no less than four articles to the duo, the best of which is a lengthy profile by Bridget Foley in which the sisters “wax rapturous” about Alexander McQueen and Foley waxes equally rapturous about the insanely awesome gifts they give each other.

WWD’s Bridget Foley Is Sick Of Playing The Weight Blame Game

The Great Weight Debate lumbers on in today’s Women’s Wear Daily, with a takedown penned by Bridget Foley on the CFDA’s recently re-released health guidelines.

Cathy Horyn Accuses WWD Of A Michelle Obama ‘Witch Hunt’

0-cathy

Last week, Michelle Obama and her husband hosted a state dinner for the Chinese Prime Minister. For the evening, Obama chose a red gown with a black floral pattern designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. It was a beautiful dress in a traditional design, especially by McQueen’s standards. The color, most presumed, was an homage to China. The choice, however, was a slap in the face to American designers, at least according to the CFDA, Oscar de la Renta, and fashion’s publication of record, WWD — all of whom Cathy Horyn takes to task in her column for today’s New York Times.

Miuccia Prada Reads Blogs On Paper, Has Political Aspirations

62583403

This weekend Miuccia Prada showed off her much-lauded spring/summer 2011 collection in a one-off show in Beijing. Miuccia adapted the collection for the Chinese market, swapping cotton for silk and adorning the signature striped pieces in sequins. Of course, the show was also an opportunity for Miuccia to sit down with WWD and dish on globalization, political aspirations and the internet.

CONFIRMED: Google’s Fashion Venture To Launch This Week

0-google

Last week, we wrote about an invite we received to an event hosted by Google and headlined, “High Tech Fuses With High Fashion,” which led us (and every other invitee) to believe that the web giant was launching some sort of fashion e-tailer. Today, WWD confirms the news via several sources privvy on Google’s plans.

Victoria Beckham Loves America, Hates Crop Tops

A couple of months ago the Times asked if Victoria Beckham was for real, and today WWD responds with a definitive “yes.” Their Q&A with the former Spice Girl/current designer is chock full of interesting tidbits, which we’ve mapped out for those among you without a subscription.

The Olsens, Anna & More Celebrate WWD’s 100th B-Day!

Last night Women’s Wear Daily celebrated their 100th birthday at the oddly named WWD @ 100 Anniversary Gala. The fashion people were out in full force at Cipriani, though many struck a fairly casual note, eschewing gowns for pants and pumps for boots.

How Fashion People Define ‘Cheap’

0-zoe

Fashion people are a funny bunch. They have their own lingo, their own avenue, and their very own bible. And though it’s no secret that most clothing is wildly overpriced, the movers and shakers in the industry also have their very own and very adorable ideas of what can actually be defined as “cheap.”

Stefano Tonchi’s New W Is Finally Here!

Stefano Tonchi, who took over W magazine in April, has slowly but surely been making a series of changes to the struggling book. And while some of them have been small, none of them have been subtle. In a Q&A with WWD, Tonchi explains the biggest changes — all of which are on full display in the September issue.

Stacy London Launches Own “Style for Hire” Company

Having a personal stylist seems to either be an exclusive privilege of the rich and famous, or a once-in-a-blue-moon experience you obtain after your friends and family publicly humiliate your poor sartorial choices on national television. But what is the average style-troubled person to do? Perhaps unsurprisingly, the bubbly, aimable, and hysterical Stacy London of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” now has the answer.

What Kind Of Shopper Are You?

0-barbie

Fashion media is starting to look a lot like a quiz-heavy issue of Cosmo magazine. First the Wall Street Journal outlined the four types of luxury shoppers, and now WWD has a breakdown of the five shopping personalities — with names like Shop-a-Lot Sue and Bubble Barbie, of course — women can have. So, which one are you?

Courtney Love Set Fire To Marc Jacobs’ Perry Ellis Collection

0-love

Is there anything more entertaining to read than a Courtney Love interview? This time, the rocker sat down with WWD to wax free associatively about style and her sartorial education at the hands of Karl Lagerfeld, Daphne Guinness, and Lady Amanda Harlech, but the best part of the interview might be when Love confesses to doing some very bad things to Marc Jacobs‘ infamous grunge collection for Perry Ellis.

0-wwd

Today marks Women’s Wear Daily 100th year of publication. And it’s difficult to imagine our world without the industry insider newspaper and online resource bringing us in-depth coverage of everything from fashion shows to retail stock quotes. But like any centenarian, WWD has gone through a few nip tucks in its lifetime. So, what did it used to look like?

Meet Yu-Ming: The Man With 900 Shoes

shoe

Encountering a male sneaker enthusiast with more pairs of shoes than his female counterpart is an unusual scenario, but most unusual is one who has more shoes than 40 times the average women’s collection combined. Co-founder of Freshnessmag.com and web designer Yu-Ming Wu’s sneaker collection of 800-plus pairs, from brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma, to name a few, was recently revealed in Women’s Wear Daily’s Footwear News.

WWD Adds Drama To The Rachel Zoe-Taylor Jacobson Rift

0-taylor-rachel-zoe

When Taylor Jacobson announced she was leaving Rachel Zoe, rumors abounded: Was there a fight? Were clothes stolen? Was Rachel telling brands not to work with Taylor? Finally, Zoe decided to set the record straight.

Tyra Banks Is Doing Vogue Italia A Favor By Partnering

0-tyrabank

When we first heard that the winner of next season’s America’s Next Top Model would be gracing the cover of Vogue Italia, we thought the partnership had Andre Leon Talley’s name all over it. But according to Tyra Banks, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Zac Posen To Show In Paris?

0-posen

We were pretty surprised when we got yesterday’s WWD Fashion Flash and saw the subject line, “Zac Posen May Show In Paris.” Zac Posen, he who was bored and raised in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood and who just lent his name and decorating skills to a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom duplex model apartment in the Flatiron? Zac Posen who spent three years being mentored by Richard Martin, the curator of The Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art? Yes, that Zac Posen. And why?
