There’s a little part of us, way deep inside, that feels terrible for sitting on our couch on a rainy Monday night and going through photos of our favorite bold-faced names and judging them purely on their looks. But then we see the Ms. Havisham monstrosity that Kirsten Dunst chose to wore and we shove that part even deeper down inside and carry on our merry, judge-y way. What follows are the most lackluster looks from tonight’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala.
The theme was American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity and, certainly, some women took that a little literally. Carey Mulligan’s 60s style shift was too casual for the event and Vera Farmiga embraced the Old West in a saloon-inspired get-up.
That said, make no mistake: some of these were tough calls. It’s hard to put Tina Fey anywhere near the word “worst” and Maggie Gyllenhaal slid onto this list by the skin of her poorly proportioned bustier. But we’re ready to defend our decisions, if need be — so leave your arguments in the comments.
