Wal-Mart Finally Pulls The Plug On Miley’s Toxic Jewelry
Turns out Miley Cyrus just might be poisonous to your kid’s health after all — and funnily enough, it has nothing to do with x-rated photos starring Justin Beiber. (Too bad though, right?) Instead, it seems the pop-starlet’s toxicity is confined to aisles of Wal-mart after tests conducted by experts for the Associated Press found high levels of cadmium (a known carcinogen) in pieces from Miley’s jewelry line.
Moreover, the Washington Post reports that the retailer had apparently received test results back in February showing the presence of cadmium in some of the jewelry — necklaces, bracelets and charms — but chose to leave the jewelry on the shelves until now. Whoops!
Now, in an apparent attempt to cover their tracks and avoid another class-action suit, the retailer said in a statement that it had reviewed children’s jewelry and pulled “the few products that did not” comply with its new testing regimen — i.e. the poisonous ones.
Doctors say that the cadmium in the jewels is not dangerous if simply worn, but if ingested it can lead to bone softening, kidney failure, and even hinder brain development. Exactly how many of the items have been sold was unclear, but we’ve got a feeling that a slew of personal injury attorneys are currently hard at work compiling a roster.
